“Always in unity and color consistency, the work of Motoko MJ. Huysveld is built with skill and balance in space. Projected, opposed or diffuse on canvas, painting, watercolor organize themselves like orchestra with rhythm and sensitivity. Throughout various feelings, her works become more voluntary or more delicate with this concern for fairness and harmony. In an organized chaos, her inspirations are being transcended by a talented creative imagination of quality. Dynamic works filled with vitality that lead us to truth and spontaneity in a personal universe that deserves our attention. Good work. " (Comments by the FNCF Jury )
Born in Tokyo (Japan). Moved to London (UK) in 1982, where my interest in Arts grew over the years. Formally trained in the following art schools: The City & Guilds of London Art School, The Camden School of Arts (now, the Hampstead School of Art) as well as The Byam Shaw School of Arts.
Moved to France in 2005, where registered at The Maison des Artistes, and started to exhibit works in and around Ile de France area from 2009, including Paris, Barbizon, La Défense and Cergy-Pontoise. They were also regularly exhibited in group shows at the Galerie Orsel in Paris-Montmartre. In November 2011, a work was selected and shown at the "Art en Capital" Exhibition (for the "French Artists Salon”) at the Grand Palais in central Paris. A year later, in November 2012, took part again in the "Art en Capital" Exhibition but, this time, works were exhibited at the "Independant Artists Salon" and the "Watercolour & Dessin Salon".
Having grown up in both the Far East and in the West, I came to appreciate many different forms of Arts: Sumie, Ukiyo-e, Byobu art, Fusuma-e, Zen art, Calligraphy Art of the Far East, and Action painting, Lyrical Abstraction, Tachism, Impressionist paintings among many other from the Western art. I enjoy working in automatism approach, leaving much of the original energy created by spontaneity, similar ways of working in creating oriental calligraphy or action paintings.
I appreciate both expressive and contemplative nature of the arts mentioned above, particularly the Zen arts, Sumie and oriental calligraphy. I love the variety of painterly effect that can be achieved through colour and texture and freedom of expression in the other arts mentioned above, and I enjoy exploring in this field.
There’s always something new and unexpected happening in the process of working this way, which is so addictive! I hope my love and respect for both culture come through in my works.
Above all, I hope it offers some contemplative moment away from the everyday !
